Sapling’s Vegan Omega-3 is an algae-based supplement that is free of all fish.
Algae is one of the planets’ primary (and most sustainable) food sources. Fish actually get their Omega-3 fatty acids from algae, and the algae in Sapling’s product is grown in the United States.
While other plant oils, like flaxseed oil, don’t contain DHA or EPA, algal oil does have these essential fatty acids. That makes a vegan Omega-3 supplement like this one an excellent choice for vegans and vegetarians.

Hear Our Expert's Take
Omega-3 fatty acids have been extensively researched and are considered beneficial for memory and eye function, cardiovascular and brain health. The official guidelines for Americans recommend two servings of oily fish per week, equating to approximately 250mg per day of EPA and DHA. Sapling Omega-3 contains 550mg of Omega-3 per dose, 300mg of DHA and 150mg of EPA, so the supplement meets the official dietary guidelines.
Sapling Omega-3 is sourced from Schizochytrium sp. oil and is a viable option for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians who are conscientious about environmental concern over reducing fish stocks. The DHA and EPA from algal oil has been found in studies to be absorbed to an equal extent as fish oils. While there are limited clinical trials on humans using algae sourced Omega-3, it can be assumed that benefits should be similar to the consumption of Omega-3 from fish sources.
The rosemary oil and peppermint oil in this supplement is likely to make it more appealing for consumers, improving the taste and stability of the oil. This supplement also comes highly recommended due to its high DHA and EPA content.
