Nature Made Fish Oil Review

Nature Made Fish Oil

Nature Made Fish Oil is an excellent Omega-3 supplement for anyone concerned with natural sourcing. They source their fish oils from wild-caught ocean fish, and not the farm-raised stock some lower market competitors use.

This supplement comes in 1000mg soft gels containing a blend of EPA and DHA fatty acids, adding a balance of Omega-3’s to your diet.

One of the unique aspects of Nature Made is the brand’s mercury purification process. Their fish oil is strictly purified to remove mercury to nearly non-existent levels.

Quick Facts

  • Uses some of the strictest mercury purification on the market
  • Sourced from wild-caught ocean fish
  • Balanced with both EPA and DHA
  • Some customers report a fishy aftertaste
  • Relatively large softgels, longer than the size of a penny

Nutrition Breakdown

Nature Made Fish Oil Nutrition Facts

Like most fish oil supplements, Nature Made will provide your body with high levels of Omega-3 fatty acids.

Each softgel provides 1,000mg of fish oil (the company recommends 2 softgels per serving). The total serving size of 2,000mg of fish oil includes both EPA and DHA essential fatty acids.

Our favorite feature of this supplement is its stringent mercury purification. Mercury can have toxic effects on the immune and digestive systems if consumed at high levels.

Nature Made goes above and beyond to purify their fish oil from mercury and other harmful chemicals.

Hear Our Expert's Take

According to the National Institutes of Health, many Americans do not consume the two servings of oily fish each week prescribed by official recommendations. Nature’s Made Fish Oil supplement was designed to give the same amount of EPA and DHA as contained in two servings of oily fish. It provides 2,000mg fish oil per dose, with 600mg omega-3 (of which 500mg is EPA and DHA).

EPA and DHA are considered supportive for brain and memory function, heart and eye health. Considerable evidence supports the supplementation of EPA and DHA for heart health (see this study) with fish intake being recommended by the American Heart Association. In terms of neurological function and brain health, DHA is the most important element, and a supplement richer in DHA may be more beneficial.

Nature’s Made Fish Oil is sourced from wild ocean fish. The EPA and DHA are delivered in the ethyl ester form, which has been found to be absorbed to a lesser extent than the more natural triglyceride form. This supplement is recommended for healthy individuals wishing to boost their omega-3 status, but for individuals wanting a therapeutic dose, a stronger supplement would be recommended.
