Hear Our Expert's Take

Dr Tobias Omega-3 Fish Oil Triple Strength provides 2,000mg of fish oil and is rich in EPA and DHA (with 800mg and 600mg respectively). EPA and DHA have been extensively researched for their benefits to brain, eye, heart and eye health. DHA is considered important for eye and brain health being the major fatty acid in brain tissue and in the structure of the retina.

The fish oil is sourced from a variety of wild fish; herring, anchovy, salmon and mackerel, and is refined to ensure purity. The chemical form of omega-3 is not disclosed, but given the fish oil is refined, the omega-3 might be in the ethyl ester form, which is believed to have inferior absorption (see this study) than natural triglycerides.

It is claimed the ratio of EPA to DHA used improves its absorption, but there is no scientific evidence to support this. Although, a 1.5:1 ratio, more-or-less as in this product, is considered the natural ratio of EPA to DHA. I recommend Dr Tobias Omega-3 Fish Oil Triple Strength because of its high dosage of EPA and DHA, but if the omega-3 is in the ethyl ester form this high level might not be fully absorbed.
