Hear Our Expert's Take

Carlson Cod Liver Oil contains 1,100mg of omega-3 Fatty Acids consisting of optimal levels of DHA and EPA, 500mg and 400mg respectively. DHA and EPA have been well researched in terms of benefits to brain health, heart health and eye function and this supplement contains good levels of both.

Cod liver oil is not just an omega-3 supplement, but is a good bio-available source of both vitamin D and vitamin A. One serving of Carlson Cod Liver Oil provides 255mcg of vitamin A, 28% of the recommended daily intake, and 400IU of vitamin D, 50% of the recommended daily intake. Both vitamins play an important role in immunity, and whilst deficiency of vitamin A is rare, deficiency of vitamin D is both common and a public health concern (see this study).

There is some evidence to suggest that there is a synergistic effect to co-supplementation of vitamin D and omega-3, and when these micronutrients are taken at the same time, benefits may be enhanced. Given its history of use for a wide range of conditions, and evidence backing the levels of DHA and EPA contained in Carlson Cod Liver Oil, this product is highly recommended.
